W Memfis, w Stanach Zjednoczonych zmarł Sam Phillips, producent muzyczny, który odkrył Elvisa Presley'a. Miał 80 lat. Phillips był założycielem studia nagraniowego Sun Records. Uważa się, że był jedną z najważniejszych postaci rynku muzycznego XX wieku. Odegrał znaczącą rolę w wypromowaniu elektrycznego blues'a - był również pionierem rock 'n' roll'a. Oprócz Elvisa Presley'a, wśród twórców odkrytych przez Phillips'a Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis i B.B. King.
